Humantay Lake is one of Peru’s most stunning natural wonders. Located over 4,200 meters above sea level, this turquoise glacial lake is fed by the snow-capped Humantay Mountain, part of the Salkantay range. The Humantay Lake Full Day Tour is a high-altitude adventure crafted for travelers looking to connect with nature, challenge themselves physically, and witness breathtaking mountain scenery. The day begins early in Cusco (around 4:30 a.m.), traveling by vehicle to the charming town of Mollepata, where breakfast will be served.
From there, we continue to Soraypampa, the trailhead for the hike, situated at 3,900 m.a.s.l. The hike to the lake takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes and ascends to the awe-inspiring Humantay Lake at 4,200 m.a.s.l.
Along the trail, your professional guide will share insights into the lake’s sacred role in Andean cosmology, as well as facts about the local ecosystem and glacial geography. Once at the lake, you’ll have time to relax, take photos, enjoy a short ritual offering to Pachamama, or simply contemplate the vibrant contrast between the turquoise waters and the snowy peaks of Mount Humantay.
After taking in the view, we’ll descend back to Soraypampa and return to Mollepata for a comforting buffet lunch. The tour ends with a drive back to Cusco, arriving around 5:30 p.m.
